Search Everything
One of the first ways to find clinical practice guidelines is to use the Search Everything box on the library homepage and add a search term of guidelines to your search. Below is an example search:
statins AND "heart disease" AND guidelines
In addition to this, there are also ways you can find these guidelines in specific databases. Below are instructions for databases with guideline filters.
Databases with Guideline Filters
CINAHL with Full Text
Database - CINAHL with Full TextCINAHL with Full Text is the world’s largest source of full text for nursing and allied health journals and provides full text for more than 1,300 journals indexed in CINAHL.
To find guidelines in this database, follow the steps below:
- Click on the database link above. This will take you directly to the advanced search page.
- Enter your keywords in the search field.
- Scroll down to Limit Your Results.
- Select Practice Guidelines under the Publication Type scroll menu and hit search.

DynaMed Plus
Database - DynaMedDynaMed is the clinical reference tool that clinicians go to for answers. Look to DynaMed for the most current, evidence-based information available.
To find guidelines in this database, follow the steps below:
- Click on the database link above.
- Enter your keywords into the search field and hit search.
- Click on the title of the result that best identifies your topic.
- Select Guidelines and Resources in the left-hand navigation menu.
- At the top of the results, hover over the menu titled In this Section, and click on the the link for guidelines. You can expand the guidelines section to see them broken down by country.

Medline Complete
Database - Medline Complete from EBSCOThe largest companion to the MEDLINE index, this full-text database provides access to top-tier biomedical and health journals. Covering a wide range of subjects, it is an essential resource for doctors, nurses, health professionals and researchers engaged in clinical care, public health and health policy development.
To find guidelines in this database, follow the steps below:
- Click on the database link above. This will take you directly to the advanced search page.
- Enter your keywords in the search field.
- Scroll down to Limit Your Results.
- Select Guideline under the Publication Type scroll menu and hit search.
PubMed
Database - PubMedPubMed comprises more than 24 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.
To find guidelines in this database, follow the steps below:
- Click on the database link above.
- Enter your keywords into the search field and hit search.
- Scroll down and click Additional Filters to the left of the search results.
- Select Article Type in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Select Practice Guideline from the menu, and hit Show.
