Library Services for Faculty and Colleagues

Librarians in Navigate360: Supporting Student Success

Faculty and students now have two options for requesting student research support through Navigate360:

  1. Student-Initiated Appointments
Students can schedule research help appointments independently through Navigate360. Faculty members who wish to share instructions with their classes may direct students to the "Get Research Help Appointments" page for step-by-step guidance.
  2. Faculty-Initiated Referrals
Faculty can create a case in Navigate360 for students who require assistance with using library databases or locating appropriate academic sources. Referrals are most appropriate when a student is encountering significant research-related challenges or would benefit from direct, individualized support from a librarian.

These options are intended to provide timely and flexible support to students as they develop their research skills.

Please note: Librarians assist students with using library resources and developing database search strategies, but do not provide support for APA formatting or writing instruction.

Why should I refer students to the library?

Librarians specialize in resource discovery and information literacy, which means we help students find credible sources, access full-text articles, navigate research databases, and more. Here are some examples of when you might refer a student to us:

  • A student is struggling to find scholarly articles
We can guide the student in using search strategies to combine the most relevant keywords, making it easier to locate appropriate articles.
  • Student found fake or AI-generated citations
We can help verify whether a source exists and assist in locating real, credible alternatives.
  • Student needs help accessing full-text articles
We can help troubleshoot access issues and locate the full article through one of the library's many databases or open access sources.
  • Student is unfamiliar with library databases
We can provide a quick orientation on how to search and filter results effectively using one of the built-in Librarian Appointment options in Navigate360.

There are some things that we cannot help with. Some examples of situations where referrals to other departments, like The Writing Center or a program/specialty track colleague, may be more appropriate include:

  • APA citations
  • Source selection ("Does this article meet my assignment requirements?")
  • Writing/formatting/revision support
