The Academic Search Complete database is the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 8,500 full-text periodicals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals and a total of more than 13,200 publications, including monographs, reports and conference proceedings.

Academic Writer is the official, authoritative online resource for proper use of APA Style. This database features a learning center with tutorials on APA and writing, a reference center where you can build and manage your citations and a writing center where you can access APA templates for formatting your papers.

Create An Account

To use this database's features, you will have to create an account.

  1. As highlighted in the image below, select Welcome in the upper-right corner of the database homepage.
  2. Select Log in from the drop-down menu.

  1. From the login page, select the Create an Account link at the bottom of the page, as shown in the image below.

  1. Fill out all required fields on the form, and select Create Account

Navigate Academic Writer

Use the options in the top navigation menu to navigate the database, as shown in the image below. 

  • The Learn page includes quick guides on APA style, longer tutorials on research and writing and sample APA papers. 
  • The Reference page allows you to access your saved references or create new references.
  • The Write page allows you to create a new paper or work on a saved paper. Always keep a copy of your paper on your computer. Do not rely on this database to store it for you.

The Points of View Reference Source is a great place to find information that presents both sides of a current issue or event. Each topic provides an overview essay of the topic, a point (argument) essay, a counterpoint (opposing argument) essay and a guide to critical analysis. These essays will help you build your persuasive arguments.

There are two ways you can search for topics in this database:

  • Or use the browse function to explore the topics that are covered in the database. This is often a great way to help you decide on a topic to write about. Go to the Browse by Category section, and select the link for a topic of interest. The image below highlights the Banning Books topic under the Censorship category.

Each topic opens with an overview essay and links to the point and counterpoint essays in the Related Items section. Each essay has a list of references from reputable popular and trade publications from all sides of the political spectrum. To read them, move down to the Bibliography section of the essay, and select the links from the list.
