What is UpToDate?

Thanks to your valuable feedback during the trial period, we're thrilled to announce the full acquisition of UpToDate! This powerful clinical decision support tool delivers quick, evidence-based answers to questions at the point of care, empowering informed decisions and improving patient outcomes.

To get started, you will have to create an account.

Create an Account

Accessing UpToDate is simple! Head on over to our Databases A to Z page via the library homepage by selecting the U button and choosing UpToDate from the alphabetical list, or select the shortcut link under the Database Shortcuts menu. Select the Access Database button, and if you’re not already logged into the library, use your student portal or Canvas credentials to sign in.

When you log in for the first time, you’ll be prompted to create an account. This quick step unlocks all the features listed above, including access to the mobile app. Once registered, UpToDate will remember you and log you in automatically on future visits.

To register for an account on initial login, follow the instructions below.

  1. Access the database from the library homepage, as mentioned above.
  2. Use your student portal or Canvas credentials to log into the library.
  3. Fill out the registration form, and select Send Verification code to confirm your account via the email address you registered with.

  1. After you receive your verification code in email, enter it into the form, and select Submit Verification Code. 
  2. You will be prompted to Accept the Terms of Use.

Note: You must log into your account via the institutional login to UpToDate every 90 days to keep your profile active.

Start a Search

Getting started on a search with UpToDate is easy! Use the search box on the homepage to look up diseases, symptoms, lab abnormalities, procedures, or drugs. Enter your term, and if it appears in the auto-complete menu, select it. If not, select the magnifying glass icon to search.

Results are displayed by relevance and include quick links to commonly referenced sections and graphics. Refine your search by selecting filters like All, Adult, Pediatric, Patient, or Graphics.

For a deeper dive, hover over a topic and the arrow that appears on the right-hand side to expand its fully interactive outline—perfect for quickly accessing specific subjects.

Once you are in a topic, you will notice that all content is thoroughly referenced to ensure reliability and accuracy. You’ll find citations throughout the text, with a complete reference list conveniently located at the bottom.
