Happy Holidays from Chamberlain Library

It’s that time of year. Time to unpack your festive mantel decorations, cedar-scented candles, shimmer snowflake couch pillows—you get the point. I hope you take a moment to sit back and enjoy the winter vibes while clasping your warm holiday-spiced tea. We certainly will. So, it would probably be a good time to announce that live library services will be closed from Dec. 21 - Jan. 7. No need to worry for those who work ahead. Help is always here even when we aren’t. Here is how you can get your questions answered during the winter break.

Browse FAQs

Before you browse the FAQs, it’s important to note what we can and cannot assist with. Librarians can help with research, learning to use the library, finding specific articles and books, and troubleshooting technical issues with our search system and databases. Librarians cannot assist with APA, writing, tutoring, or non-library technical support (e.g., Canvas). Even though we cannot help with non-library issues, we can point you in the right direction.

Below are several FAQ highlights of common questions:

Library Q&A

  • Library LoginChamberlain Library uses the same single sign-on as your courses in Canvas. So, enter your D# and password when you select the Sign In to My Library Account link or start a search from the Search Everything box on the library homepage. You will also use the same login when you try to access one of our databases, such as CINAHL, Access Medicine, etc. Watch the video in our library account FAQ for more information on what you can do once signed in.
  • Scholarly Sources: Scholarly sources are written by experts with the intention of contributing to the knowledge in their field. They do this by providing new original research or summarizing, analyzing or interpreting existing knowledge in the field. Watch our video on Scholarly Sources for more information.
  • Peer-Reviewed Articles: Peer review means qualified professionals evaluate the publications to determine the accuracy of the information and the methods used. To find peer-reviewed articles in the Search Everything system, select the Peer-reviewed Journals and Articles checkboxes to the left of your search results after you do a search. To verify if a journal is peer-reviewed, do an online search for the journal’s website and try to locate this information on an About or For Authors page.

Non-Library Q&A

  • Textbooks: Most textbooks aren’t in the library; however, you may find the current but most likely an older edition from time to time. To see if we have it, enter the title of your textbook in the Search Everything box on the library homepage. If you do not find it in the search results, please review your course booklist or go to the bookstore.
  • Writing: This is not a service that we provide. Instead, go to the Writing Center and review the page for the Essay Review Service.
  • APA: The Writing Center can also help you with APA citations and references. However, your best bet would be to review the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition), which you can purchase from the bookstore. You can also use our citation generators; however, these automated citations are not always 100% accurate.
